Tribute & Message From The Family

Alphonse A. L'Italien, 77 of Hanover, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 22, 1940 in Edmundston, New Brunswick, Canada. Alphonse came to the United States in 1958 and became an American citizen in 1996.

Alphonse is survived by his wife, Patricia (Sullivan), of 53 years. Along with his wife, he leaves behind three children, nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter: Peter and Lyn of Halifax, their daughters Samantha (and her husband Kyle), Erica, Rebecca, and granddaughter Leona; Paul and Ellen L'Italien of Pembroke and their children Emma, Sean, and Sarah; and Michelle and Roger Harris of Marshfield and their children Stephanie, Jonathan, and Katherine. Alphonse was one of eight siblings including Rina Buckley, and her husband Bill, of Pembroke and Claude L'Italien, and his wife Pauline, of Hanover.

Alphonse owned L'Italien Construction for 45+ years and was a proud member of the Hanover Call Fire Department for many years. Above all else, he loved spending time with his grandchildren, attending any games, recitals, or concerts that he could. When he wasn't with his grandkids, he enjoyed working in his barn, fixing and building anything and everything.

In lieu of flowers, the family is kindly asking for donations to Cranberry Hospice 36 Cordage Park Circle, Plymouth, MA 02360 or to the Alzheimer's Association.

The family will be having a private celebration of life at a later date.

Ellen and Paul, I can see the source of so much of your enduring love and partnership in the photo of the handsome Mr. Alphonse. I learned another interesting "cousin Ellie Mae" coincidence: not only are we connected on the Dwyer family tree, but Alphonse Sievers was my great-grandfather on my mom's side. Sending hugs to you all as you remember this great American man. I will be thinking of you all this Father's Day, and wishing you love and light always.

When a ship sails away and begins to disappear one will usually say, "There, she's gone", but that is not true. The ship merely passed from our sight. Al will still exist in our minds. His smile, his love of family, his good nature and his neighborly manner will never be forgotten. My deepest sympathy to Pat, Peter, Paul, Michelle and family. He will surely be missed.
