George Douglas Thibeau, 78, of Rockland, Ma, passed May 6th, 2020.
Doug was born to James and Blanch, July 20th, 1942, in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, Canada. He graduated from High School in 1960. Doug joined the U.S. Army in 1966, with a tour of duty in Neu Ulm, Germany. Following his years in the service Doug received a Tradesman Certificate in HVAC. He married Gail Marie Smith in 1969, and they lived together in Rockland, Ma. For almost 51 years. In 1973, Doug became a proud naturalized citizen of the United States. Together they raised 3 sons.
He leaves as his legacy 3 children: Vincent (Tracey), Andrew (Gaby), Steven (Kerri). Doug also had seven grandchildren (Mackenzie, Justin, Stephanie, Maxx, Jay, Nicholas, Mason), along with many nieces & nephews. He also leaves to cherish his memory one brother, Richard Thibeau of Halifax, Nova Scotia. His wife and children remember him as a loving husband, caring father and proud grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents James and Blanch and two brothers Bob & Ron.
Doug was an HVAC Technician at the Gillette Safety Razor Company, in South Boston for 27 years until he retired in 2004. Doug loved being outside in his garden, camping and riding his bike around the neighborhood. Doug never met a stranger!
Due to COVID-19 public health guidance, services will be private.
Condolence & Memory Journal
Gail and the entire Thibeau family, you have my deepest sympathies. Doug was a great guy and an amazing neighbor. I'll always remember Doug as an "outdoorsman". Always working in his yard, tending to his garden and your property. And, taking trips with Gail with their camper. Travelling across the country with Gail and family really gave Doug great joy. Doug loved his family dearly. His love did not end with his family. Doug and Gail have always been kind and caring to my parents. Not only as neighbors. But, as extended family. The Korzeniowski family will never forget Doug's compassion and kindness to my mother when our father passed. Doug was a great soul. May he rest in peace!

Our thoughts and prayers are with Doug's immediate family. A great man who was always full of positive energy and a loved family member to my mother. Doug left his home country of Canada many years ago, but he always returned for visits to maintain his valued relationships. His physical presence will be dearly missed. Doug will be able to make heaven a better place with his presence. I hopefully will see some of Doug in his children and grandchildren in my future. Doug's family will always be welcome through my door and a seat made available at my table.

Don Maloney again...making a short story not too short. Doug was a great friend. He provided my family with so many magnificent times. We will always remember the many years of Christmas shopping, keeping the American economy afloat. Getting Doug to enjoy shopping took many years, but Gail, you were persistent. Our trips to Florida and our many tours will never be forgotten. Gail, with Doug, your trips to Canada provided great moments. Thank you Gail and family for inviting me to Doug's Birthday-Hawaiian Party and when we meet again, there will be many more good times. Brenda will welcome him with a "Aloha" and a little Irish Cream!

I have known Doug since he and Gail were first married. He was more than a good friend and neighbor;Doug was family. He always made me laugh even in the darkest of times and was generous and loving especially towards my elderly parents who thought of him as another son.I will forever be grateful for the kindness he showed them . Both he and Gail would check in on them often offering their help on many occasions. Sweet gestures like sharing the fruits of his garden and bringing up their trash barrels were typical of his nature.Doug will sorely be missed. My husband Paul and I want to extend our sincerest sympathy to Gail and the entire family. May he rest in peace. Love Carol Korzeniowski Dupuis

Our first real connection with Doug and Gail was when they welcomed us in 2004 into their home when Peter and I first ran the Boston Marathon and invited us back when Pete decided to run it again as his lovely wife (me) finished while pregnant for Russell and he didn't! We had fun during our stay, even though Doug didn't love my peanut butter ice cream cake! Doug also showed Peter how to hold Russell like a football to calm him down! We remember getting the grand tour of the greater Boston area, including the Newton Wellsley Hospital! Since our adventures in Boston, Doug and Gail have made many visits to Canada. We especially enjoyed surprising my mother on her 60th birthday with our special out of town guests! I will always remember Doug as a man who put his family first, was sooooooooo knowledgeable, and appeared never to have a dull moment in life as he was always on the go.
Our heart goes out to Gail and the boys as well as their families during this difficult time. Doug will be deeply missed by our family.
