Tribute & Message From The Family

On Wednesday, June 24th, Carol Jean Wynne McDermott, 81 of Rockland, died in Franklin, MA after fighting a brave, battle with ALS. Born in Boston on January 8, 1939, to John A. Wynne and Mary McDermott Wynne. Carol was brought-up with five sisters and a brother in Roslindale and Norwood and attended Notre Dame Academy Primary school in Boston, and in 1956, she graduated from Notre Dame Academy in Roxbury. She then spent two years at Boston State Teacher's College where she met her great friend Priscilla, before she took a position as an Executive Assistant at Mobil Oil in Boston. Carol also worked for Citizens' Bank in the Properties Management department where she finally retired at 76 years of age.

In 1964, she married Peter McDermott and they spent almost 55 years, living in Rockland, Mass. Throughout her life, Carol wore many hats. She was a devoted wife and loving mother to her two children, Jennifer McDermott Lance and Andrew McDermott. A vibrant member of Holy Family Parish, School and Mother's Club, Carol loved spending time with her many friends, doing parish, school, and charity work. She was always first to step-in and help-out others, as well as enhance the lives of children of Holy Family school by volunteering and eventually teaching computers and crafts. She was also a Girl Scout Leader, Treasurer of the Catholic Women's' Club, a Member of the Rockland VNA Board and helped start and run the Rockland Ecumenical Food Pantry, where she worked until ALS prevented her from performing her duties. Carol and her husband also spent many happy hours enjoying the view at their beloved "peaceful" house, nestled into the mountains of Rochester Vermont.

Carol was also the Bookkeeper and Business Administrator of the family business, Peter's Record One Stop (a wholesale record, tape and CD store) started by her husband. For almost 30 years Carol, Peter and their kids ran the exciting business and enjoyed uncountable hours of music, concerts, parties and meet and greet with some of the most popular music artists and groups of the last 50 years.

Carol is now resting safely in peace with her mother, father, and sister Jacqueline. She is survived by her husband, Peter, daughter Jennifer McDermott Lance and her husband Steven, and son Andrew and wife Christine of St. Louis, MO. "Gramma" will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Maeve Lance and Molly, Declan, Renny and Finn McDermott, who brought her so much love, joy and pride. Carol also leaves her sisters, Sheila Wynne, Noreen Frizelle, Mary Jo Noonan, Virginia MacLeod and brother John, as well as her nieces and nephews. She will also be greatly missed by her many friends, especially the "Monday Night Pizza Girls," made-up of her Holy Family and Rockland friends.

Sometime in the fall, Carol's family will hold a Celebration of Life Mass at Holy Family Church in Rockland. In lieu of Flowers, please make donations to Compassion Care ALS (CCALS) of Falmouth, Mass at https://ccals.org/

Dear Mr. McDermott, Jennifer and Andrew and all extended family.
I would like to extend my deepest sympathy. Carol was
An early influencer on many levels. She always had (Jenn's
NDA class) best interest at heart. Even after high-school
Carol supported me losing my Mom. I know she's supporting
us now and always.

Dear Mary Jo,
So sorry to hear of Carol's passing. My thoughts and prayers are with her and the family. I am sure that our paths must have crossed at some point as my family moved to Rockland in the early '70's and my son attended Holy Family School, where I was also active. I notice some common acquaintances among those in the guest book.
Still remember the days at NDA in Roxbury and the connections we all had even with older and younger sisters.
Sending you my particular prayers and thoughts.

Dear Peter--my wonderful music industry and Red Sox Spring Training friend--Ann Murray Loved You! As did the great Al Martino! And to Jenn and Andrew--my deepest sympathies as your Mom was great and "ran the show," for sure. I'm sure she is our Lord, now. Rest in peace, Carol. Paul Lefty Wennik
