Obituary for Charles M. Mason

January 22, 1928 - January 4, 2020
Rockland, Massachusetts | Age 91

Charles Mason passed away peacefully early Friday morning on January the 3rd at South Shore Hospital with his granddaughter Nicole by his side. He is rejoining his wife of 49 years Nancy, who passed away in 2000.

Charlie was a life long resident of Rockland. He was born on Bigelow Ave, to Parents Lucretia and William Mason, just a street over from where he made his home with his beloved wife Nancy on Myrtle Street. Charlie is survived by his two children, Chuckie and Ann, and five grandchildren Carly, Nicole, Stephen, Malcolm and Simmone.

Charlie was a proud United States Marine Corps Veteran. He joined the USMC in 1951 and served bravely in the Korean war. He was honorably discharged from service in 1959 as a Lance Corporal.

Charlie owned and operated C.M. Trucking for many years. He then began working at Colburn Willbert Vault, from where he retired. He was also a member of the Teamsters Union, and a proud member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles.

Charlie was well known figure throughout Rockland and had many friends. He enjoyed a very active lifestyle until late in life. He could drop down and give you 10 push ups well into his 80's. He loved to host and entertain, from Monday Night Dinners with the family, his many Summer Cookouts, and the Christmas Eve Party. He loved his Sunday Morning get togethers with his Head Chief and best friend, Danny Reardon. Charlie is the last of the Myrtle Street originals to pass on, he took great pride in his home, and was loved by his younger neighbors.

Charlie was a Stand Up Guy, was loved deeply and will be missed immensely. Semper Fi, Papa!

The Mason family invites friends and loved ones to celebrate Charles' life at a Funeral Mass in The Holy Family Church in Rockland on Tuesday, January 14, at 9:00 AM.
