Obituary

Donald Nelson Lanchester, 78, of Rockland, MA passed away on April 9, 2017at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. He was born on March 17, 1939 in Somerville to the late Nelson and Gertrude (Cochran) Lanchester.

Don grew up in Somerville, and graduated from Somerville High School in 1956. After high school he joined the Air Force in 1956 and served for four years. He served in the 32nd Communications Squadron and was honorably discharged in 1961, achieving the rank of Airman First Class.

After the Air Force, Don attended Northeastern University in Boston for a few years before beginning work at Southeastern Metal Fabricators, Inc. in Weymouth as an estimator/draftsman where he worked for almost 45 years.

Don was a Master Mason, Scottish Rite Mason, and Shriner, holding several master and officer positions at several lodges over the course of more than 45 years. He was an active member of Phoenix Lodge A.F. & A.M. in Hanover, Satuit Lodge A.F. & A.M. in Scituate (past master of Nantascot Lodge 1985-1987), Macedonian Lodge A.F. & A.M. in Hingham, and King Solomon's Lodge A.F. & A.M.in Somerville (past master 1975-1976). Don was also a member of the Aleppo Shriners in Wilmington, and formerly a member of the Aleppo Cycle Motorcycle Parade Unit and Precision Drill Team and Sergeant of the Provost Guard. He was also a volunteer deputy sheriff in Middlesex County.

Don is greatly missed and survived by his son Robert M. Lanchester of San Francisco, CA, daughter Laura A. Lanchester of Los Angeles, CA, and brother Nelson Lanchester of Port Orchard, WA.

A Memorial Service will be held at Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home 135 Union Street Rockland on Saturday April 15, 2017 at 11:00 AM The family will be greeting friends and relatives at the funeral home on Friday April 14, 2017 from 5:00-8:00 PM

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations of blood and/or platelets at your nearest blood donation center. Memorial donations be made to The Masonic Education & Charity Trust or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
