Obituary

George H. Crane,84 of Rockland died at his home on November 9, 2016 surrounded and cared for by his loving family. He was born in Weymouth, son of the late George H. and Elizabeth R. (Campbell) Crane and was raised and educated in Rockland. He was a member of the graduating Class of 1950 at Rockland High School, where he was a standout athlete on both the basketball and track teams. He was quite proud to have broken the State 440 yard dash record with a time of 50 seconds flat.

After high school he attended Stonehill College before serving in the U.S. Army. He had a lengthy career as a driver for the Bakery Drivers' Union, first driving for Tip Top Bakery in Brockton and later for Drake's Bakery in Mansfield. Prior to his retirement he was a driver for Putnam Investments in Boston and Quincy for 10 years.

A longtime Rockland resident, George lived in Yarmouthport on Cape Cod for several years and enjoyed wintering in Boynton Beach, Florida for more than 18 years. He enjoyed playing golf while in Florida with his friends from the Sterling Village Community. Mr. Crane was a daily communicant of Holy Family Church in Rockland where George served as a Eucharistic Minister.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Patricia A. (Condon) Crane and their children, George H.Crane, III and his wife Maggie of Rockland, William J. Crane and his wife Lisa of Canton, Timothy F. Crane and his wife Donna of Plympton, Brian P. Crane of Abington, Christopher M. Crane and his wife Debra of Pelham, NH, Kathleen M. Garrity and her husband Joseph of Rockland and Kevin J. Crane and his wife Karen of Rockland. He was the brother of Elizabeth Sarnosky of Yarmouthport and the late Robert Crane, Mary Keller and Grace Warren. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren,11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The family welcomes friends and relatives to celebrate his life on Sunday, November 13,2016 at the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union Street, Rockland, from 3:00-6:00PM. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, November 14, 2016 at 9:00 AM at Holy Family Church in Rockland. Burial will follow in Holy Family Cemetery.
