Obituary for Havelock A. Dickson

December 30, 2018
Naples, Maine

Havelock A. Dickson, 100, of Naples, Maine, died December 30, 2018, after a brief stay at the Maine Veterans' Home in Scarborough, ME.

He was born in Nova Scotia, Canada, to the late Hedrick and Edith (Lockhart) Dickson. Havelock was raised and educated in Chelsea and was a graduate of the Chelsea High School Class of 1936. He was the loving husband of the late Genevieve (Rusczyk) Dickson.

Havelock was a proud and decorated member of the United States Army and recipient of the Purple Heart as a member of the 351 Regt. 88th Division 15th Air Corps during World War II. After the military, Havelock worked for nearly 40 years in operations for Grossman's of Quincy and Braintree. After retirement from Grossman's, Havelock drove a school bus for the Town of Rockland from 1981-1993.

Havelock loved baseball and enjoyed watching his grandchildren's sporting events. He also was an avid woodworker and enjoyed the peaceful environment in Naples where he would keep the bird-feeders full of food so he could watch the birds and squirrels from the living room. He was active in the Naples community and could be found frequently strolling downtown in the summers, even at 100 years of age.

Havelock stayed active and recently enjoyed his 100th birthday surrounded by family and friends at a party by the ocean in Falmouth, ME.

A loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Havelock's family includes his son Kenneth Dickson of East Bridgewater and his children Doris and Marjorie (great-grandson Alexander); his daughter Jeanne Minehan of Whitman and her children Mianne and Amy; his son Keith Dickson and his wife, Patricia, of Bedford, New Hampshire and their children Brett (with great-grandsons Brady and Bennett), Jeffrey, and Michelle; his son Kevin Dickson of Londonderry, New Hampshire and his children Cameron, Kyle, and Justin. Havelock was the brother of Lloyd Dickson of Florida, Ruth Filipowicz of Wilmington and Dorothy Smith of Stoneham.

Havelock is also survived by his loving companion, Muriel Osborne, and her children; Edward Osborne and his wife Laura; Russell Osborne and his wife Cheryl; Steven Osborne and his wife Betty; Cheryl Cumming and her husband John; along with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family, including her sister, Elizabeth Ruprecht.

There will be two services to celebrate Havelock's life:

The Dickson's and the Osborne's invite friends and loved ones to a Memorial Service on Tuesday, January 8th at 11:00 AM at the Naples Methodist Church, 1000 Roosevelt Trail, Naples, ME. Luncheon to follow immediately in the Fellowship Room.
