Obituary

JAMES G. PETERSEN
September 1, 1945- October 23, 2019

James G. Petersen, 74, of Rockland, MA died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on October 23, 2019. James is survived by his wife of 54 years, the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Irene (Tedeschi) Petersen, daughters Christine (Petersen) Mattuchio and her husband Louis Mattuchio III, Kimberlee (Petersen) Dalton and her husband Timothy Dalton, all of Rockland. Devoted and loving Grandfather to Tyler, Abigail, Amelia, Olivia and Victoria Dalton, Louis J. and Emma Mattuchio. Brother to Edward Petersen and his wife Pamela of Whitman. Also survived by several cousins, nephews, and nieces. Predeceased by his parents Conrad and Phyllis (Perry) Petersen, nephew Michael Petersen and granddaughter Sophia Mattuchio.
He lived in Norwell throughout his early years, moving to Rockland his Junior year of high school. James was a 1963 graduate of Rockland High. After graduation, he attended Wentworth Institute in Boston and became a licensed pipe fitter. As young man, he was also an officer with the Rockland Auxiliary Police Force. In his later years, he went to work with his Grandfather, Carlton Perry at CM Perry Company Inc. After his grandfathers passing, he and his bother Ted continued the business until retiring in 2012. In retirement, Jim was most happy sitting on the balcony of his condo in Daytona Beach Shores, Fla, watching the sunrise and sunsets, and listening to the waves.
James had a lifelong love of the ocean, maritime history and classic cars. He owned several boats over the years and was a member of the Green Harbor Marina in Marshfield where he and Irene spent many summers. Jim and Irene were also members of the South Shore Corvette Club. He lovingly restored his 1967 Corvette 427 Convertible, which went on to win multiple trophies. He enjoyed cruising along the seacoast in his Corvette while listening to the oldies. In later years, genealogy became a newfound interest in his life. He took great pride in discovering that his heritage included members of English Royalty and Mayflower descendants.
Music was always a passion of Jim's. He recently purchased a commercial grade bluetooth speaker to play songs and make his family sing Karaoke with him. This gave Jim and his family so much happiness and joy in his last few weeks.
A funeral mass to celebrate Jim's life at Trinity Episcopal Church, 3 Goddard Ave, Rockland, MA 02370, will be held on Saturday, November 2nd at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Holy Family Cemetery.
Donations in Jim's memory can be made to Old Colony Hospice, 321 Manley Street, West Bridgewater, MA 02379
