Karen Kimball of Weymouth, passed away May 29, 2017 at the age of 79 after a lengthy illness. Karen was born on February 13, 1938 in New York City to the late Lowell and Phyllis (Laing) Curtis. She was raised and educated in Haverhill, MA.

Karen resided in Rockland from 1971-1992 with her husband Donald Kimball, son Benjamin who both predeceased her and her daughter Rebekah. She is survived by her daughter Rebekah Callahan of Floyd Virginia: and 3 grandchildren, Lois, Valerie and Cameron Callahan. Karen leaves behind her brother Lowell Curtis and his wife Barbara of Holden, MA. Her brother Lawrence Curtis and his wife Carol of Harrison, Maine. Karen was predeceased by her brother Howard Curtis.

Karen attended Emerson College and performed in many stage productions during her time at Emerson. She also participated in a local drama group in Haverhill, MA.

Karen was active in Girl Scouts. She was a Worthy Advisor of the Haverhill Assembly of Rainbow Girls and Associate Advisor of the Massachusetts Rainbow Girls. Karen was active At the Channing Church, Unitarian in Rockland, MA and the First Parish Unitarian Church in Norwell, MA.

Karen worked with John Holt who advocated homeschooling and became very active in the homeschooling movement. Karen was one of the first parents in Massachusetts to home-school her children.

Karen became active in grief support groups and facilitated a group for those who lost loved ones to suicide.

A graveside service will be held for Karen's family and friends at Maplewood Cemetery in Rockland MA, June 23,2017 at 1:00 PM.
