Leo V. Cleary, 88 of Daytona Beach, FL, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2017 at Halifax Health Hospice Care Center. Leo was born in Quincy, Massachusetts on December 25, 1928. He was the son of the late Leo and Mary (McIsacc) Cleary.

Mr. Cleary is predeceased by his wife of 49 years Charlotte Harris Cleary and his daughter Charlene Brady. Leo is also predeceased by his brother Martin Cleary and sisters Mary McCall, Alice Campbell and Geraldine Cookson. Leo is survived by his children James (Linda), Patrick (Arlene), Kathy, Kevin (Kim), Richard (Cheryl) and 13 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

He raised his family in Braintree, Quincy and Hanover till he and wife Charlotte moved to Florida in 1988. Leo was an Auto Insurance Appraiser by trade but his lifelong passion was as a racecar driver in New England, Florida or any other track on the East Coast where there was a race. Leo won 14 track championships in New England in a long and very successful career that spanned 44 years till the age of 63 when he hung up his helmet.

Leo was inducted into the New England Auto Racer Hall of Fame (N.E.A.R) in its second class in 1999. Leo always loved to dance, bowl and play golf.

The family welcomes relatives and friends to celebrate his life on Friday March 3, 2017 at the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union Street in Rockland from 5:00-8:00 PM. A Celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Donations in his memory may be made to Halifax Health Hospice, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129.
