Obituary for Robert E. Bombardier

October 25, 2020
Brockton, Massachusetts

Robert Edward Bombardier, 83, of Brockton, MA, formerly of Rockland MA, passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2020, due to complications from COVID-19. Robert was the loving son of the late Clifford and Fannie (Inkley) Bombardier. He was also predeceased by his three siblings Lois DesRoches (Joe) of Plymouth, Grace McIlwee (Jim) of McLean VA, and Francis Bombardier (Barbara) of Rockland. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.

Bob was raised in Rockland by his caring parents and in his later years was in a residential program managed by Growthways Inc. and participated in many activities and trips offered through them. He was very active and enjoyed attending Mass, going out for coffee and dinner and trips to the park, Plymouth and Boston. Bob also enjoyed the trips he had taken to Disney World, New Hampshire and Cape Cod. He was a member of the Brockton Area ARC & BAMSI work programs, attended the senior center at the Mater Dei Adult Health Center and was a regular at the monthly dances sponsored by the Brockton Self Care Advocates.

Bob had two favorite passions throughout his lifetime; the Boston Red Sox and a good meal. He was nominated by the staff and residents of his house to do restaurant reviews for them. He also developed a passion for beading and would spend hours at this on a daily basis.

Bob was a very kind man who was well liked by all. He enjoyed helping others and would always be looking out for his housemates, advocating for them and making sure they had what they needed. Bob was very conversational and would engage with everyone he came in contact with. His friendly nature and compassion are just two traits he will be remembered for. Having lived a long and full life, Bob will be dearly missed by his many support staff from Growthways and Mater Dei.

The family wishes to express our sincere appreciation to the staff at his Growthways House who cared for Robert with the same love and compassion that his parents would have wanted. Special thanks are given to Nikki McCray who was Robert's caregiver, friend, companion and closest "family" for the past nine years.
